In John 6;37-40 it says, 'All the Father gives Me shall come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that all of that He has given to Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him, may have eternal life; and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.
Then in verse 44 - No one can come to Me, unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise Him up on the last day
verse 65 - For this reason I have said to you, that no one can come to me, unless it has been granted him from the father.
There are 3 things we can take from these verse,
the first being that it is impossible for a person to come Christ unless that person is drawing of that person by God.
The second being that it is impossible for a person who is drawn by God not to come to Jesus, as said in verse 37. So its impossible for a person who is not drawn to Christ to come to Christ, and it is also impossoble for a person drawn by God not to come to Christ.
So to put that simply, there are people selected by God that will enter the kingdom of Heaven, and there are people who are not selcted, and will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Some people might say that ' that seems unfair', 'How can God allow that?'
Then i think you should ask yourself, like I have asked myself, 'Is it fair for you to enter kingdom of heaven, is that what you deserve, do you deserve to enter God's kingdom?' The answer should be no, because only someone who is pure and perfect can enter the kingdom of heaven, unless your that, you don't deserve heaven but God has graciously sent His Son, to take the Sin, so that many can enter the kingdom of Heaven. This is my own personal view, that if God allowed everyone to enter heaven, it would not show his wrath against sin. And if he allowed no one to enter heaven, and everyone goes to Hell, then it wouldn't show his grace.
Now, the third impossibility is that when a man comes to Christ, it is impossible for him to be cast out, as it says in verse 37 ' and the one who comes to me will most certainly not cast out.'
So this would suggest that it is impossible for a person that has given their life to Christ to lose that salvation that has been given to them.

Can sin be graded into different levels of severity?
In Bible College a few weeks ago this topic came up.
the question was, ' Will Hitler be punished greater that a nice wee old granny who wasn't a Christian?'
The answer that the lecturer came up with was, that sin of intent and sin that is unitentional will be punished differently and that people will be judges according to their deeds.
